The inaugural MCU Awards dinner will be held on Friday November 30th at Cork County CC from 8pm onwards.

Guests of Honour on the night will be Tom Prior, Hon. President of the ICU, and Mrs. Hope Kerr, wife of the late Bob Kerr who was a former President of the ICU and a great supporter of Munster cricket.

Tom Prior will address the assembled company and will present the various awards. 

The winners of the various MCU 2007 competitions will be presented with their trophies (including those who have already received their trophies) and, in some instances, their medals.

The 2007 Competition winners are as follows:

Division 1 Champions: Cork Harlequins CC; 

Munster Senior Cup Winners: Cork Harlequins CC;

Division 2 Champions: Co. Galway CC;

Munster Junior Cup Winners: University College, Cork CC;

Division 3 Champions: Clonmel CC;

Munster Minor Cup Winners: Lismore CC.

Other Award Winner

Leinster Cricket Union Wicket-keeper of the Year: Mike Martin, of Cork County CC

Three special awards will be presented during the evening to recognise the particular achievements of three individuals – more than that we are not going to say!

Press release re MCU Awards Dinner held on Friday November 30th at Cork County Cricket Club at the Mardyke

 

The inaugural MCU Awards dinner was held on Friday November 30th at Cork County CC in the Mardyke, Cork.

Guests of Honour on the night were Mr. Tom Prior, Honorary President of the Irish Cricket Union (ICU), Mrs. Hope Kerr, wife of the late Bob Kerr who was a former President of the ICU and a great supporter of Munster cricket and Mr. Billy Bradley & Mr. Dermot Giltinan who were both presented during the evening with the MCU’s most prestigious award which is for Lifetime Achievement.

The Long Room at the Cork County club was packed for a splendid dinner hosted by

the MCU Honorary President, Mrs. Amanda Lanigan, following which the gathering

was addressed by ICU Honorary President, Tom Prior.

In his speech Tom Prior praised the contribution that Munster had and

continues to make to Irish Cricket and stated his belief that cricket was looked set

for dramatic expansion in Munster in the coming years.

He paid particular tribute to the late John Rolf of Cork Harlequins CC who had been

a passionate and committed supporter of cricket in Munster for many years.

 

Among the awards presented at the evening were:

MCU Lifetime Achievement Awards to Billy Bradley and Dermot Giltinan;

The 2007 MCU Outstanding Achievement Award  to Ted Williamson

of Cork Harlequins CC & Munster Reds to recognise his achievement in scoring

5000 runs in Senior Cricket in Ireland;

The Division 3 Champions trophy to Captain James Burke on behalf of Clonmel CC.

 

The other 2007 Competition winners were as follows:

Division 1 Champions & Munster Senior Cup Winners: Cork Harlequins CC;

Division 2 Champions: County Galway CC;

Munster Junior Cup Winners: University College, Cork CC;

Munster Minor Cup Winners: Lismore CC. 

Other Notable Achievements by Munster-based Cricketers during 2007 were:

Robin Russell of Cork Harlequins CC was capped for Ireland at U15 level joining a select band of Munster players who have won International caps at both U13 and U15 level;

The Leinster Cricket Union Wicket-keeper of the Year was Mike Martin, of Cork County CC & Munster Reds;

James Doran of Midleton CC managed the Irish U17 team which won the Jersey County Cricket Tournament for the first time this year.
